cause of death: the drama

my teenager's "I'll take care of it in a few"

an ex's text of "hey" came through

couldn't find phone when in my hand

caught a cold when a party was planned

the cloud of cologne on a first date

fruit in a net instead of a crate

my teeth won't cut down right to the skin

she yawns with her lips instead of her chin

squeezed the mustard, nothing but water

travelled up north, somehow it was hotter

ink ran dry before the end of the clause

the turtles have choked because of the straws

there's sand in my teeth, a hole in my sock

car's battery died, so now I must walk

"I saw this and thought of you"

how is that me when I thought that you knew?

five unfinished books sit next to my bed

coping with stares that are caused by the lead

a tap on the shoulder when I'm already pissed

a pat on the head when I need to be kissed

brand new sweater, knit already tugged

the ache from a beer too quickly chugged

the wifi is out and so is my spine

incorrect password, try one more time

a high five when the hand is too sticky

the faucet of snot when the air is too nippy

tasting the salt when expecting the sweet

ice in the glass when asking for neat

stating a claim, but he is no scholar

needing a ten when there's only a dollar

wanting to leave and stuck in the town

donning a cap, deserving a crown
